Susan Gayle Smith

Susan Gayle Smith, 75, of Huntington, passed away at 6:02 am Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Susan was born on April 6, 1949, in War, WV, the daughter of Bill Cox and Wilda (Rane) Cox. She graduated from Huntington High School with the class of 1968. Susan married Lyle Smith on June 14, 1970, in Huntington, IN.; he preceded her in death on January 26, 2020. She worked as a Licensed Interior Designer for many years. Susan had an eye and a love for interior design and with that passion, she enjoyed serving the customers of Smith Furniture in Huntington, IN. She also had a flare for floral design. Susan enjoyed volunteering for the Parkview Huntington Hospital. She was a member of the Emmanuel Community Church of Fort Wayne, Member at Large of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, member of the First Mother’s Club of Huntington, and a member of the Downtown Business Association. Susan enjoyed interior design, scrapbooking, spending winters in Florida, and traveling. Her favorite place of travel was Israel. Susan’s greatest love was for God, family, and dear friends. Survivors include her Sister, Sharon (Pete) McCoart of Huntington, IN; Brother, J. Leon Cox of Huntington, IN; Niece, Sonya (Rusty) Foraker of Huntington, IN; Nephew, Shane (Breann) McCoart of Roanoke, IN; Great Nieces, Marissa and Tayteum, Great Nephew, Kash, and Great-Great Nephew, Knox. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Lyle Smith, Daughter, Sherie S. Hughes, Father, Bill A. Cox, and Mother, Wilda Gay Cox. Susan was loved and supported by the Smith family, Ed and Nancy Smith, Mark and Diane Smith, Todd and Lisa Smith, Dawn and Doug Hinthorn, and the late Robert G. and Lucille Smith. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory at 10:00 am Friday, May 31, 2024.
