Shirley R. Rickert

Shirley R. Rickert, 85, of Huntington, passed away at 8:55 am Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at her residence. Shirley was born on April 19, 1936, in Huntington, IN, the daughter of Paul Gressley and Marguerite (Brown) Gressley. She graduated from Huntington High School with the class of 1954. She married the love of her life Roger M. Rickert on June 1, 1975, in South Carolina. They shared 43 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 24, 2019. She earned her Doctorate degrees in Women's Management and Women's Studies from Purdue University, Indiana University, and Ball State University and graduated from Northwestern University with a Minor in Mental Health. She retired in 1998 as a Professor of Supervision from Purdue University. She was a conservative Republican and she enjoyed hiking, canoeing, quilting, polishing rocks, and going to Michigan rock hunting. She also loved to fly which led her to obtaining her pilot's license. Survivors include her daughter, Tamarah L. Cope of Huntington, IN; sons, Terry (Shareen) Miles of Black Mountain, NC, Timothy G. (Laura) Miles of Tucson, AZ; sisters, Jacilin Ehringer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Beverly (Robert) Barton of Hartford City, IN, Charlotte (Furl (Doc)) Elzey of Huntington, IN; grandchildren, Gebben Miles, Ashley (Robert) Weaver, Michelle (Brad Kidd) Miles, Abbi (Jeremiah) Sheneman, Nick (Stephanie) Miles, Mitch Miles, Jamie (Brittany) Cope; great-great grandchildren, Miles Kidd, Jameson Kidd, Solomon Sheneman, Easton Cope, Jensen Cope; several nieces and nephews, and her pup, Pearl. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger M. Rickert, father, Paul Henry Gressley, mother, Marguerite P. Gressley, sisters, Virginia Vanderweg, Judy Gressley, Brother, George Gressley. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor John Barton officiating.
