Shirley M. Rains Love

Shirley Mae Rains Love, 76, of Huntington, passed away at 12:15 am Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on May 6, 1947, in Bluffton, IN, the daughter of Ray E. Rains and Dayle (King) Rains. She graduated from Chester Center High School with the class of 1965. She worked as the Head Cosmetician at Walgreens in Huntington for 24 years. She also worked for H.K. Porter for many years. She was very involved in her church, Healing Waters Ministry in Mt. Etna, IN, where she was also a board member. She was a member of the Huntington City Council, ABWA of Huntington, and the Grandmothers Club. Shirley was a very avid member of the Huntington County Democratic Party. She made sure to be early to the polls to help and was very passionate about getting people out to vote. Shirley had a small garden that she adored, she would grow tomatoes and strawberries. Shirley loved to attend her grandchildren’s events and extra-curricular activities. She played in many Bunko clubs. Shirley’s biggest passion was helping others, whether it was providing meals to those who were sick, to doing their grocery shopping. She was a kind and generous friend, but an even better mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She was also a fighter, she survived Polio at a young age, two rounds of Breast Cancer, before succumbing to Pancreatic Cancer. Survivors include her Daughter, Tamara M. (Barbara Moran) Howell of Lakewood, OH; Two Sons, Christopher M. (Deanna) Love Sr. of Roll, IN, Jeffrey A. (Jessica) Love of Huntington, IN; Six Grandchildren, Kyana, Christopher Jr., Kyle, Kyla, Carrie, and Desiree; Five Great Grandchildren, Heaven, Grayson, Isebell, Vinnie, and Adelyn; Siblings, Carolyn (Jim) Standefer of Donna, TX, Rodney (Nola) Rains of Decatur, IN, Loretta (Larry) Lung of Indianapolis, IN, and Larry (Sandy) Rains of Bluffton, IN; and Life Long Friend, Patricia A. Leist of Ft. Wayne, IN. She is preceded in death by her Father, Ray E. Rains, Mother, Dayle I. Rains. There will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm on January 27, 2024, at Healing Waters Ministry of Mt. Etna, 5811 W 606 S, Huntington, IN.
