Paul E. Rigsbee

Paul E. Rigsbee, age 77, of Marion, died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday (August 21, 2014) at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Paul was born December 5, 1936 in Marion, the son of Paul W. and Martha (Julian) Rigsbee. He was a 1954 graduate of Marion High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Judith Carpenter on August 26, 1956 in Seymour, Indiana. Upon graduation, he attended Indiana University, where he was a member of the I.U. Marching 100 Band for four years. Paul enjoyed working with his father, brothers, and son in their family-owned business, Rigsbee Supply Company, Inc. Years later, he and his wife established The Lion and Lamb Christian Bookstore to serve the community. Before retiring, Paul served as the Fleet Manager for Southworth Ford in Marion. Paul’s great love for music led him to participate in various choral/instrumental organizations including the Marion Male Chorus, Community Band, Marion Easter Pageant, and Messiah. He served as the Music Director at Highland Ave. UMC for 16 years, and most recently participated in the choir at Mt. Olive UMC where he was a member. Paul’s greatest love and joy were his family. Paul is survived by his wife of 57 years - Judith (Carpenter) Rigsbee of Marion; two sons - Paul Rigsbee Jr. of Frankfort and W. Eric (Shelli) Rigsbee of Portland; three daughters - Deborah (Rev. Kenneth) Vance of Zambia, Africa, Katherine (Bruce) Giffin Beck of Fishers, and Cynthia (James) Cornwell of Tampa, Florida; two brothers - Philip (Shirley) Rigsbee and Don (Carol) Rigsbee, both of Marion; two sisters - Phyllis French of Marion and Janice (Thomas) Kulczyk of Jonesboro; 20 grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter-in-law - Barbara Rigsbee, and one son-in-law - Timothy Giffin. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 2 - 7 p.m. at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, 2015 North 300 West, Marion, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Mount Olive UMC with Rev. Tim Becker and Rev. Robert Barton officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be given to Gideons International Bible Distribution, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN.
