Marilyn "Jean" Johnson

Marilyn “Jean” Johnson, 84, of Huntington, passed away peacefully at 5:50 pm Friday, May 29, 2026, at Heritage Pointe of Warren. Jean was born on July 28, 1941, in Huntington, IN, the daughter of Fred Smith and Annetta (Bartrom) Smith. She attended Bippus Schools until her senior year and graduated from Clear Creek High School with the class of 1959. Few years later she had a love at first sight encounter with Donald W. Johnson. They exchanged vows on January 13, 1962, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington, IN. During their 64 years of marriage, they have built a beautiful life and loving faithful foundation for their 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. While being a mother was Jean’s most important role, she also spent several years working as a shipping and receiving clerk at Huntington Lab. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke, IN. Jean had many wonderful talents. She was an excellent cook and baker, loved playing cards, and was a skilled seamstress. She also had a gift for growing large vegetable gardens and preserving her harvest through canning. Her home was always filled with food, reflecting the care she put into providing for her family. Jean took great pride in her meals and made sure nothing went to waste, even if it meant asking each child to take one last bite. She was a generous person and a wonderful listener who loved deeply and made others feel that love. Above all, she was most proud of her family, whom she considered her greatest accomplishment. Survivors include her loving Husband, Donald W. Johnson of Huntington, IN; Children, Michelle Paxton of Bluffton, IN, Mike (Karen) Johnson of Warren, IN, Samuel (Aimee) Johnson of Middleville, MI, Kathy (Joseph) Stephan of Lagro, IN; 11 Grandchildren; 18 Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Peg Stahl of Huntington, IN; and Sister In-Law, Brema Smith of Huntington, IN. She is preceded in death by her Father, Fred Smith, Mother, Annetta Smith, Son, Douglas Johnson, Granddaughter, Jama Johnson, Brothers, Jim Smith, Jon Smith, and Jan Smith. Visitation will be from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington. In honor of Jean, the family requests that guests wear jeans.
