Larry D. Bishop

Larry D. Bishop, 90, of Huntington, passed aways peacefully at 6:46 am Monday, July 29, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Larry was born on February 6, 1934, in South Whitley, IN, the son of Clair Bishop and Georgia (Rubrake) Bishop. He graduated from South Whitley High School with the class of 1954 and proudly enlisted in the United States Army. Larry married the love of his life Kay L. Veatch on January 1, 1977, in Huntington, IN. He had dedicated his life to working hard and being a provider for his family. Larry was a printing pressman for over 24 years before retiring from Our Sunday Visitor of Huntington. He was a faithful member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church and a member of the Clear Creek Senior Golf Club both of Huntington. Larry’s love of the outdoors started at a young age growing up on his family farm in South Whitley. He would find any reason to be outside in the sunshine, attending to his gardens, making sure his yard was in tip top shape or out enjoying a round or two of golf. Larry was an avid sports fan and always made time to cheer on the Notre Dame football and Indiana University basketball teams. In his younger years he played on the church softball team, wallyball at the pal club and bowled for many leagues. Larry and Kay looked forward to riding their motorcycle and traveling to new places to make memories. As time passed on, he found great joy in sitting on his porch feeding the birds and spending time with his family. Larry was a wonderful and loyal husband, father and role model. He taught his children to work hard, love fully and always take time to soak up some sunshine. Survivors include his wife, Kay L. Bishop of Huntington, IN; children, Tamela K. Bishop of Huntington, IN, Lisa Keen of Huntington, IN, Michelle (Ricardo) Castaneda of Warsaw, IN, Earl Christian of Ft. Wayne, IN; sister, Eunice I. Ware of Fort Wayne, IN; 17 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Clair C. Bishop, mother, Georgia D. Bishop, son, Monty D. Bishop, brothers, Robert D. Bishop, Jack D. Bishop, Max Bishop, John C. Bishop, sisters, Clairice C. Drake, Doris L. Brandenburgh. Visitation will be from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Friday, August 2, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm Friday, August 2, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Chris Lantz officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery in South Whitley, IN. Military Honors will be rendered by the VFW Post 2689 Honor Guard.
