Karen K. Grimes

Karen K. Grimes, 75, of Huntington, passed away at 1:55 am Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Karen was born on May 25, 1947, in Huntington, IN, the daughter of Roberta (Pingry) Osburn. She graduated from Huntington High School with the class of 1968. Karen married the love of her life Jaryl D. Grimes on October 20, 1965, in Evangelical United Methodist Church in Huntington where they were members. They shared 53 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 11, 2018. Karen was passionate about children and spent more than 25 years providing childcare out of her home. She then took a position at Our Sunday Visitor and retired after 6 years of service. Karen was an avid reader of romance and western stories and later listened to audio books. She enjoyed knitting baby clothes, crocheting blankets and making ceramic gifts. Karen had a skill for growing a beautiful vegetable garden and liked canning her harvest each year. She always looked forward to playing a round or two of golf and going to the bowling alley to watch her husband bowl. Karen was a little bit of a social butterfly; she liked to drop by the Party Shop or Johnnys for coffee and visit with others. She truly had a heart of gold and loved being around her friends and family. Survivors include her two daughters, Sally (Gary) Keyser of Huntington, IN, Dawn M. Honeycutt of Sarasota, FL; two sons, John A. Grimes of Bloomington, IN, Christopher S. (Heidi) Grimes of Huntington, IN; three grandchildren, Julianne, Elijah, William; and many friends that she loved like family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jaryl D. Grimes, mother, Roberta I. Osburn, sisters, Joretta McDonald, Mary E. Bumgardner, Susan V. McDonald, Rebeca L. Osburn, Sally A. Osburn, brother, Richard W. Pingry, and grandson, Jacob Vonesh. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 pm with Rev. Raymond Scribner officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington at a later date.
