Joy Kennedy

Joy Kennedy, 89, of Huntington, passed away at 6:18 am Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Joy was born on August 16, 1933 in Huntington, IN, the daughter of Dale Hammel and Beautrice (Davis) Hammel. She graduated from Clear Creek High School with the Class of 1951. She was a 1974 graduate of Huntington College where she earned her B.S. in Education and was a 1976 graduate of IPFW where she earned her Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Joy married John William Kennedy on June 24, 1951 in Huntington, IN. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2011. She worked at the Herald Press after High School and She retired as a Teacher in 1994 from Lincoln Elementary School after 20 years of service. She was a member of Clear Creek Church where she was the Organist for 67 years. She was also a member of the Huntington County Retired Teachers Association and the Retired Indiana State Teachers Association. Joy loved IU Basketball and she crocheted for many years. Survivors include her Four Sons, John David (Renee) Kennedy of Roanoke, IN, Charles Mark (Sherri) Kennedy of Huntington, IN, Daniel Joe (Marileah) Kennedy of Huntington, IN, Timothy Jay (Robin) Kennedy of Huntington, IN; Three Daughters, Cheryl Dalene (John) Bailey of Huntington, IN, Kathleen Joy (Brad) Dimick of Huntington, IN, Tamara Kay (Marty) Bailey of Huntington, IN; Two Brothers, Robert (Julie) Hammel of Bloomington, IN, William (Kathy) Hammel of Indianapolis, IN; Twenty-one Grandchildren; and Thirty-Two Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Husband, John William Kennedy, Father, Dale Hammel, Mother, Beautrice Hammel, and Brother, James Hammel. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm Friday, March 10, 2023 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Clear Creek Church with Pastor John DiMarzio officiating. Burial will be in Clear Creek Cemetery in Huntington.
