John Shoemaker

John Wayne Shoemaker, 88, of Huntington, passed away at 1:51 pm Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. John was born on August 15, 1937, in Huntington, IN, the son of Lloyd Shoemaker and Emma (Kahlenbeck) Shoemaker. He graduated from Huntington Township High School. John married Patty Lou Rader on July 3, 1960; together they shared 65 wonderful years. John served in the United States Marine Corp until 1958 as a Private. He retired from Teco as a material handler after many years of service. John enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, anything he could do to spend time outdoors and at the camp ground. He was an avid sports fan; he loved watching sports from little league to college to pro. He was a fan of the Indiana University Hoosiers, the Indianapolis Colts, and March Madness, but an even bigger fan of his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities. Over the years, John and his wife, Patty, loved taking their annual Florida vacation. John was a huge family man; he loved to entertain family and friends at his house. Most of all, he adored getting to spend time with his friends and family who all meant the world to him. Survivors include his Wife, Patty Lou Shoemaker of Huntington, IN; Daughter, Vicki (Fred) Minniear of Huntington, IN; Daughter-In-Law, Laura Shoemaker of Huntington, IN; Two Sons, Dan (Chris) Shoemaker of Huntington, IN, Greg (Becky) Shoemaker of Kirkwood, MO; Nine Grandchildren, Nathena, Cory, Seth, JoBeth, Jordan, Austin, Alexa, Taylor, and Drew; and Twelve Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Son, Steven "Steve" W Shoemaker, Father, Lloyd Shoemaker, Mother, Emma Shoemaker, Brothers, Robert "Bob" Shoemaker, and Carl "Jack" Shoemaker, Sisters, Margarie Griffith, June Nunamaker, and Anita "Rosie" Willig. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Adkins Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Adkins Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Jason Fields officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service.
