Bobby D. Mitchell

Bobby D. Mitchell, 96, of Huntington, passed away at 3:06 am Thursday, February 20, 2025, at StoryPoint Senior Living in Ft. Wayne, IN. Bobby was born on January 28, 1929, in Huntington, IN, the son of Henry Michell and Fren (Lahr) Mitchell. He graduated from Union Center High School with the class of 1947. Bobby continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University and Huntington College. He married Nancy Nicholson on August 25, 1951, in Huntington, IN. They were blessed with 5 children and shared 44 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 26, 1996. Bobby was fortunate to find love again and married Sandra Bixby on September 21, 2000. They shared 19 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on October 25, 2019. Bobby retired from Huntington City Fire Department after 28 years of loyal service. He also owned and operated Bob Mitchell & Sons Roofing for over 35 years. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and Izaak Walton League of Huntington. Bobby was an avid outdoorsman, fishing, hunting, target shooting, and mushroom hunting. During his deer hunting time he tagged 144 deer, with the largest being 11 points. Bobby felt it was important to pass down his love for the outdoors not only to his children but to anyone that wanted to learn. He became a 4-H Archery Instructor and continued to educate the youth for many years. Bobby spent his life working hard to build beautiful legacy and memories that will last forever. Survivors include his loving children, Deb (Ron) Stevens of Rochester, IN, Sharon Mitchell of Orlando, FL, Terry Mitchell of Fort Wayne, IN, David Mitchell of Indianapolis, IN; daughter in-law, Jackie Mitchell of Huntington, IN; sister, Janey (Don) Vickery of TX; 13 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Henry A. Michell, mother, Fren Mitchell, first wife, Nancy Mitchell, wife, Sandy Mitchell, son, Steven Mitchell, brothers, Bill Mitchell & Jim Mitchell, and sisters, Mary Snowden & Linda Geist. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Jason Fields officiating. Burial will be in Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
