Wyatt Alexander Schmaltz, age 9, of Huntington, died at 10:54 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2020 at his home after battling cancer for over six years. Wyatt was born on January 17, 2011, the son of Joseph M. and April D. (Runyan) Schmaltz; they survive in Huntington. Wyatt attended Horace Mann Elementary School and was a member of Cub Scout Troop #3607. In 2014 at the age of three, he was appointed the youngest Sherriff Deputy in the United States. He loved dinosaurs and superheroes. Survivors also include his brothers Deacon M. Schmaltz and Caden J. Schmaltz, both of Huntington, maternal grandparents Michele Runyan of Huntington and John Runyan of Kokomo, and his paternal grandparents Gerald and Michelle Schmaltz of Huntington. Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Father Tony Steinacker officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington. Please follow local recommendations for face coverings and social distancing during all events.
