Ray Williams

Ray Williams, 70, of Huntington, passed away at 11:33 am Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Bright Star Senior Living in Fort Wayne, IN. Ray was born on January 3, 1952, in Hazard, KY, the son of Edward "Ed" Williams and Faye (Arms) Williams. He graduated from Huntington North High School with the class of 1970 and proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Ray married his true love, Janna Rae Burkhart, on February 20, 1971, in Columbia City, IN. Ray was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2689, Loyal Order of Moose Chapter # 837 both of Huntington and the American Legion Post # 160 of Roanoke. He made a career out of law enforcement, starting with being the Andrews Town Marshal for 5 years and then becoming a Huntington Co Sheriff’s Deputy from 1976-1979. Ray became the 35th Huntington County Sheriff in 1979 and retired in 1985. He then resumed the role of the Huntington Street Department Superintendent and later worked for Lutheran Hospital in security. He was always proud of serving his country and his county. He had a strong Baptist faith that led him to helping others. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, and watching westerns. He loved to go on cruises with his wife and attending all his grandchildren’s events. He looked forward to going out for breakfast with friends and visiting with others. Ray’s devotion to his family was beyond endless. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Janna Rae Williams of Huntington, IN; daughter, Jill R (Rudy) Hieber of Ft. Wayne, IN; son, Joseph "Joe" E.R. (Ashley) Williams of Huntington, IN; sister, Kathy (Van) Juillerat of Andrews, IN; brother, Jeff (Betty) Williams of Ft. Wayne, IN; seven grandchildren, Derek (Emily) Smiley, Dustin Smiley, Brayden Hieber, Rylee Williams, Preslee Williams, Makinzee Williams, Wyatt Williams; two step-sisters, Vicki (Matt) Snodderly of Huntington, IN, Brenda (Galen) Stoffel of Huntington, IN; step-brother, Rick (Linda) Wood of Columbia City, IN; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward "Ed" Williams, mother, Wilma Faye Williams, stepmother Phyllis and his beloved dog Max. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with Rev. Matt Snodderly officiating.
