Melvin S. Cox, 87, of Huntington, passed away peacefully at 2:52 pm Monday, December 13, 2021, with his loving wife at his side. Melvin was born on February 24, 1934, in Garrett, KY, the son of Patton Cox and Amy (Gayheart) Cox. He graduated from Garrett High School with the class of 1952 in Garrett, KY. He was drafted and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Once he returned, he married the love of his life, Margie Patrick, on August 3, 1957, in Wolcottville, IN. He studied electrical engineering at Tri-State College in Angola, IN. Melvin was an entrepreneur with many talents including a founder and co-owner of Cox Brother's Inc. and M&M Cox Rental Properties. He was a generous man of style with many skills and had the unique ability to remember special dates and times. He was a hard worker and instilled those values in his children. He had varied interests ranging from gardening to technical talents and was a car enthusiast. His true passion was his family and spending time with each of them. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Margie Cox of Huntington, IN; son, Patton S. Cox of Roanoke, IN; daughters, Vanessa K. Cox of Carrollton, TX, Deidre D. Myers of San Tan Valley, AZ; sister, Anna Mae (Mont) Conley of Kendallville, IN; granddaughters, Jessica (Patrick) Martin, Jaclyn (Gavin) Gilpin; great granddaughters, Addison Smith, Brailyn Smith and great-grandson, Devin Smith. He is preceded in death by his father, Patton Cox, mother, Amy Cox, sisters, Catherine Childers, Norma Pant, Elizabeth Girolami, Amel Coburn, Ellen Shannon Miller, Fern Gillenwater, brothers, Carl Cox, Bill Cox, George Cox, and Charlie Cox. Masks are required per family’s request. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, December 20, 2021, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Richard Strick and Pastor Adam Jones officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery in Albion IN.
