Harold T. Bennett

December 14, 1937 - September 17, 2019

Harold T. Bennett, age 81, of Huntington, died at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 648 North Lafontaine Street, Huntington, Indiana, with Rev. Timothy Lorenz officiating. There will be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Huntington County. Preferred memorials are to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church or VFW Post #2689, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750. Harold was born on December 14, 1937 in Taylors, South Carolina, the son of Julius C. and Marie (Sullivan) Bennett. He graduated from Taylors Rosenwald High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the University of New York at Buffalo. He married Janet Hoch in Rochester, New York. He was a sheriff’s deputy for Erie County for 35 years. He retired as a Command Master Sergeant from the United States Army after 28 years of service. Harold was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington; he was also a lifetime member of both American Legion Post #7 of Huntington and VFW Post #2689, where he served as Commander from 2008-2009. Survivors include his wife, Janet Hoch-Bennett of Huntington, sisters Deloris Peoples of Columbia, Maryland, Patricia (Ray) Blassingame of Orange Burg, South Carolina, and Constance (Paul) Ray of Elliot County, Maryland, and brothers Henry (Dorothy) Bennett of Riverside, California and Julius Bennett of Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers William P. Bennett, Charles “Mac” Bennett, Floyd Bennett, and Carnell Bennett.
