Tay L. Leonhardt

Tay L. Leonhardt, age 40, of LaFontaine, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday (May 29, 2011) at her home. Tay was born November 10, 1970, in Elyria, Ohio, the daughter of Larry J. and Denise E. (McDaniel) Brewster. She graduated from Huntington North High School in 1989 and then received a Certified Medical Assistant’s degree in 1994 from Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne. Tay married Joe A. Leonhardt, Jr. on October 12, 1997, in Huntington. Tay worked in the Medical Transcription Department at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She was also self-employed as a Regional Distributor for Gold Canyon Candles for many years and received numerous awards for being Top Distributor. Tay was a member of the Mt. Etna United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Gold Canyon Candle National Prayer Child Foundation for children with medical conditions and was given the first award for Prayer Child Contributions. Tay supported LOVE INC. Christmas families in need and deeply cared for the less fortunate. She was a loving wife and mother and loved her cats and dogs. Tay enjoyed working in her flower gardens and loved to fish and camp. Survivors include her parents - Larry J. and Denise E. Brewster of Huntington; her husband - Joe A. Leonhardt of LaFontaine; one son - Cody Merick (Kristen Alexander) Leonhardt both serving in the United States Navy; one daughter - Shana Lynn Leonhardt at home; and her grandmother - Margaret Brewster of Oberlin, Ohio. Grandparents - Doc and Eileen “Mimi” Bannerman, Henry C. Brewster and Ray Leonhardt; father-in-law - Joe A. Leonhardt, Sr.; cousin - Scott Brewster; and aunt - Arlene Kane preceded her in death. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday (June 3, 2011) at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (June 4, 2011) at the Mt. Etna United Methodist Church, 6383 West 600 South, Huntington with Rev. Sam Paggette officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shana’s Educational Fund, Cancer Services for Huntington County, LOVE INC. or the Wabash-Miami County Hospice in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN 46750.
