Shirley M. Stanley

Shirley M. Stanley, 90, of Huntington, passed away peacefully at 2:35 pm Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on November 1, 1933, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Daniel Meree and Agnes (Robinson) Meree. She graduated from Murry Vocational School in Charleston, SC with the class of 1951. Shirley met the love of her life Charles Franklin "Chuck" Stanley at the skating rink while he was serving in the United States Navy. They united in marriage on June 8, 1951, in Charleston and shared sixty-five years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 8, 2017. Shirley and Chuck were blessed with three children, and she enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a faithful member of the Christ the King Episcopal Church in Huntington and a member of the Moose Lodge #837 also of Huntington. Shirley was known for her beautiful handmade quilts and her knitting creations. She used her weaving talents and caring heart to make sleeping mats for the homeless. Growing up in the south Shirley learned how to make wonderful southern meals to share with others. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved nothing more than to spend time with her family. Survivors include her loving children, Charles "Brent" (Darlene) Stanley of Huntington, IN, Debbie (Ron) Denton of Wabash, IN, Marcia (Dave) Stanley of FL; Grandchildren, Brandy, Nick, Megan, Erin; and Nine Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Father, Daniel A. Meree, Mother, Agnes Meree, Husband, Charles Franklin "Chuck" Stanley, Grandson, Adam Poteet, Sisters, Betty Asbell and Beverly Lenhart. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Father Ted Neidlinger officiating. Graveside service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Gardens of Memory.
