Robert E. McLaughlin

Robert E. McLaughlin, age 68, of Andrews, died at 8:15 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at his home. Visitation will be from 3 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Steve Stull officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Huntington County with military graveside rites performed by VFW Post #2689 of Huntington. Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services for Huntington County, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750. Robert was born on May 18, 1948 in Huntington, the son of Wilbur and Wanda (Weaver) McLaughlin. He graduated from Huntington Township High School in 1966 and served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in communications during the Vietnam War. He studied electronics in trade school and married Becky Young-O’Connell on March 9, 1969 in Huntington. He later remarried to Wrethia E. (Hall) Peters on May 15, 1976 in Marion. Robert worked for Indiana Bell, AT&T, SBC, and Ameritech phone companies and was an American Heritage Tour bus driver for nine years. He was head of umpires at Gemmer Field; he also umpired high school and college women’s fast pitch softball. He coached Huntington Running Deers Fast Pitch Softball. He loved to play fast pitch softball, golf, wallyball, volleyball, croquet, and corn hole. He enjoyed playing outside with his grandkids, and he was always wanting to start a fire in the pit for hotdogs and marshmallows for them. Survivors include his wife - Wrethia E. Peters-McLaughlin of Andrews; his mother - Wanda McLaughlin of Huntington; three sons - Kevin (Brenda) McLaughlin of Wichita, Kansas, Jack L. (Librada) Peters of Chester, Virginia, and Aaron R. McLaughlin of Fort Wayne; two daughters - Julie L. McBride-DeLeon of Convoy, Ohio and Bev A. (Ben) Follin of Jefferson, Ohio; his first wife - Becky Young-O’Connell of Decatur; a brother - Wayne (Nancy) McLaughlin of Huntington; a sister – Jeanette (Tom) Ebersole of Huntington; 17 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. His father precedes him in death.
