Pastor Lynn E. Mefferd

Pastor Lynn E. Mefferd, 86, of Huntington, passed away at 8:00 am Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Heritage Pointe of Warren. Pastor Lynn was born on April 8, 1939 in Tully Township, OH, the son of Floyd Mefferd and Ruth (Weisman) Mefferd. He graduated from Pleasant Mills High School with the Class of 1957 and married Betty Jean Myers on June 11, 1961 in Monroe, IN. Pastor Lynn graduated from Huntington College in 1965 and he graduated from Huntington College Theological Seminary in 1968. He started his pastoral ministry and missionary work in 1961. Pastor Lynn spent 10 years in Sierra Leone, West Africa as a missionary. He retired in 2004 as a Senior Pastor at the Dillman United Brethren in Christ Church in Warren, IN. He was then a Pastor of Congregational Care at the New Hope United Brethren in Christ Church in Huntington, IN. He had a servant's heart and especially enjoyed caring for the people of his church congregations. Pastor Lynn was a member of College Park United Brethren in Christ Church. He enjoyed reading books and singing songs to his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching sports on TV, camping, traveling, doing puzzles and eating ice cream. Pastor Lynn loved to sing in church and he enjoyed waking his daughters in the mornings with song. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Jean Mefferd of Huntington, IN; three daughters, Deborah (Ron) Cherry of Huntington, IN, Joanne (Rob) Brannon of Nibley, UT, Cheryl (Joe) Pettibone of Monroe, IN; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Wright, Matthew (Lee) Cherry, Laura (Dex) White, Hannah (Steve) Isbell, Heidi (Jake) Pearson, Josiah (Amanda) Brannon, Luke (Maggie) Brannon, Brianna (Keagan) Yoder, Hallie (Aiden) Kuntz; and his great grandchildren, Lydia and Lucy Wright; Ellie, Adelyn, and Levi Isbell; Kolton and Kiara Yoder. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth M. Mefferd, father, Floyd L. Mefferd, brother, Ronald E. Mefferd, and granddaughter, Mikayla Pettibone. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm Friday, January 9, 2026 at Adkins Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 10, 2026 at College Park United Brethren in Christ Church, 1945 College Ave., Huntington, IN with Pastor Jason Carter officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Private family burial will follow at 3:00 pm in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, OH.
