Naomi Jean Stephan

It is with both profound sadness and deep gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Naomi Jean Stephan, 82, of Huntington, at 7:16 pm Saturday, June 14, 2025, at her residence. She was a beloved mother, friend, and light to all who knew her. Naomi was born on December 25, 1942, in Arkansas, the daughter of Delmos Knapp and Opal (Zuber) Knapp. Naomi married Michael "Mike" W. Stephan in 1986; together they shared 39 wonderful years. She retired from Wabash Magnetics after 5 years of service. Jean lived a life marked by love, generosity, and boundless warmth. She was, first and foremost, a devoted and loving mother whose care and encouragement shaped the lives of her children and those lucky enough to be welcomed into her extended family. Her home was never just a house—it was a place of comfort and laughter, where everyone was fed, both body and soul. To walk into her kitchen was to be embraced, even before the first bite. Whether she was preparing a favorite dish or simply offering a seat at her table, Jean made sure everyone knew they belonged. She had a gift for hospitality, not just in the meals she made but in the way she saw and cared for people. No one left her presence without feeling a little lighter, a little more loved. Her selflessness was quiet but unwavering. She had a way of putting others first—not out of duty, but out of the deep well of compassion she carried within her. Even when life was difficult, she found ways to lift others up with her humor, her hugs, and her heart. Her laughter could brighten the darkest room, and her joy was contagious. She did not seek accolades or recognition—her reward was in the smiles of others, in the peace she brought into their lives. She lived simply but loved richly. Survivors include her Husband, Michael "Mike" W. Stephan of Huntington, IN; Three Sons, Wayne (Jordan) Peterson-Stephan of Fort Wayne, IN, Billy (Gina) Apostolos of Aurora, IL, Derrick Apostolos of Huntington, IN; Two Daughters, Karen (Jay) Houser of Huntington, IN, Carol (Althea) Apostolos of Fort Wayne, IN; Step-Son, Ernie (Tami) Stephan of Bippus, IN; Step-Daughter, Rita (Jeff) Brown of Warren, IN; Fourteen Grandchildren; Eleven Great Grandchildren; Two Great-Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Father, Delmos Knapp, Mother, Opal Knapp, Daughter, Sheryl Mead, Grandson, Tyler James Paul Stephan, and Great Granddaughter, Leighlea Kauffman. Jean leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all those who were touched by her grace and generosity. A celebration of life will be held at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 1000 Flaxmill Rd, Huntington, IN 46750, on July 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
