Miriam E. Bird Lockwood

Miriam Evelyn Bird Lockwood, 101, of Fishers (formerly of Huntington, IN) passed away at 6:54 pm Sunday, September 17, 2023, at IU Saxony Hospital in Fishers, IN. Miriam was born on July 19, 1922, in Cherokee, IA, the daughter of Earl Bird and Rosa (Benion) Bird. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, IA, with the class of 1940. She married Marvin P. Lockwood on January 13, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; he preceded her in death on September 12, 1978. She retired from Bell Telephone after 38 years of service, where she worked as an operator and service representative. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Business Women’s Association, Huntington Women’s Club, and Child Conservation Club. She was also an officer for Telephone Pioneers of America. Miriam was a wonderful mother, grandmother, GiGi, aunt, and friend. She cherished her many roles in her family. Miriam loved dancing with her late husband, Marvin. She enjoyed reading and sewing. Miriam loved traveling worldwide with Marcia, Muriel, and her dear friends, Nancy Fellinger, Reggie Souder, and Ruth Guhl. She took great pride in her home in Huntington and was especially proud of her Iowa heritage and her telephone company career. Her Huntington home was always a haven for the dogs and cats that she loved so much. Survivors include her Daughter, Marcia Lockwood of Fishers, IN; Son, Scott (Melissa) Lockwood of Louisville, KY; Two Grandsons, Brandon Lockwood of Louisville, KY, and Justin (Melanie) Lockwood of Louisville, KY; Granddaughter, Meghan (Graham) Cole of Bowling Green, KY; Great Grandchildren, Elizabeth, Wyatt, Barrett, Reese, and Beckham; Three Nephews, Tom (Robin) Hilton, Raymond Kimes, and Bill Potter ; Four Nieces, Roberta Wilkinson, Mardean Lientz, Jane (Jerry) Tennant, and Brenda Peterson. She is also survived by the Robinson Family of Muncie, IN, who became her second family. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Marvin P. Lockwood; Father, Earl D. Bird; Mother, Rosa B. Bird; Great Granddaughter, Laikyn; Sister, Muriel Oswalt; and Niece, Dena Potter. Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Bill Rapp officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Marion, IN.
