Larry M. Zook

Larry M. Zook, 79, of Huntington, IN died at 8:30 am on Friday, September 25, 2020 at his home. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County at 1:30 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2020. Honorary Pallbearers: Gabrielle Coates, Geoffrey Coates, Lesley Zook, Kaitlyn Zook and Phillip Zook. Family and friends are invited, please social distance. Larry was born on March 4, 1941, sharing the birthdate with his father, in Huntington to Emmett and Elsie (Bardsley) Zook Thomas. He graduated from Lancaster Township High School in 1959. Larry adored the love of his life, Sherry Smith, who he married on June 10, 1962. Larry was extremely proud of his children, their spouses and his four grandchildren and spouse, for their character, kindness and who they have become. He loved being a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Larry cherished being a member and attending the Salamonie Church of the Brethren. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #333 & 483 for 50 years. Larry started out working for Kriegbaum & Sons, then with Carl Reed Tractor Service for 20 years as a skilled mechanic and service man. He later worked for Jerry Hite Trucking. Larry also served as a dedicated Professional Fire Fighter for Huntington Fire Department for 35 years. He and his wife farmed together for many years. He was passionate about restoring his antique Farmall tractors, watching NASCAR, college and pro football, and listening to music. He enjoyed volunteering at Parkview Huntington Hospital for 9 years. Survivors include Sherry, his wife of 56 years; his daughter, Tamera (Tim) Coates of Plano, TX; his son, Eric (Peggy) Zook of LaFontaine; his grandchildren, Phillip (Kaitlyn) Zook of Columbia City; Geoffrey Coates of Coppell, TX; Gabrielle Coates of Coppell, TX; and Lesley Zook of LaFontaine; his step-sister Marilyn Penn of Huntington; his sisters-in-law, Susie Higgs; Connie (Jim) Martin; and Donna (Gene) Little; and his brother-n-law, Greg Hinkle. Larry will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews as well. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Neil J. Zook; his sister-in-law, Sally Zook; his step-sister Barbara Fulton; his sister-in-law, Billie Carleen Hinkle; his brother-in-law, Steve Higgs. Memorials may be made in memory of Larry to the Salamonie Church of the Brethren or the Huntington Fire Department, “Larry Zook Memorial Fund” in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington, IN.
