John G. Hoch

John Gilbert Hoch, 69, of Huntington, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 20, 2023, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington after a long illness. He was born on February 28, 1954, to Max and Mary (Saluke) Hoch of Huntington. John was a 1972 graduate of Huntington North High School. He worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at Wayne Metals in Markle, IN, and at Wiley Metal Fabricating Services in Marion, IN, until he retired in 2013. He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Platt of Huntington County, Indiana on June 2, 1979, at St. Peter's First Community Church. He was a lifelong resident of Huntington County and grew up attending Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, later joining the Church of Christ. John was a musician at heart and loved rock and roll. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, but his true passion was playing the drums. In junior high school John formed a band with his best friends and they performed together through young adulthood. After a decades-long hiatus, the band members reunited as the classic rock band Coldfire in their fifties and enjoyed playing many gigs at local events. John also was a talented auto mechanic who enjoyed working on his own vehicles and his father’s classic cars. But most of all, John loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hoch of Huntington, IN; two daughters, Sarah (David) Baty of Indianapolis, IN and Danielle (Joe) Shape of Roanoke, IN. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathy (Robert) Chwedyk of Algonquin, IL, and Jane (John Edward) Hohe of Huntington, IN; and a brother, Max Joseph (Linda) Hoch of Roanoke, IN. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 1:30 pm followed by visitation hours from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a Celebration of Life service at 4:00 pm at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington, IN 46750. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Huntington at a later date. Preferred memorials are to Parkinson’s Foundation, Inc.
