Gomer Tackett

Gomer Tackett, 82, of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord at 4:41 am Monday, May 1, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. Gomer was born on December 15, 1940 in Virgie, KY, the son of Ishmel Tackett and Della (Hampton) Tackett. He married Elva Lou Hall on November 5, 1959 in Virgie, KY. Gomer drove for Kroger for 33 years and he had 3,500,000 miles of accident free driving. Gomer was a 7 time State Semi Truck Rodeo Champion. He enjoyed bowling, and he bowled 10 perfect games throughout his life. Gomer was the 2022 Mechanic of the Year at his son's bowling center. Gomer and Elva (Lou) enjoyed spending their time vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee in their motor home. Survivors include his loving Wife of 63 years, Elva Lou Tackett of Huntington, IN; Three Sons, Tim Tackett of Huntington, IN, Greg W. Tackett of Huntington, IN, Tim Tackett, Ed (Angie) Tackett of Bluffton, IN; Two Sisters, Delora (Burton) Burke of Virgie, KY, Annette Burnsworth of Huntington, IN; Six Grandchildren, Steven (Candace) Tackett, Jennifer (Matthew) Willett, Travis N. (Justine) Tackett, Eric (Audrey Mazura) Tackett, EJ (Natty) Tackett, Zac (Kayla Crawford) Tackett; and Ten Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Father, Ishmel Tackett, Mother, Della Tackett, Sister, Faye Caudill, Brother, Clarence Edward Tackett, Brother, Jack Tackett, Daughter-In-Law, Donna Jean Tackett, and Daughter-In-Law, Sandra Tackett. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Travis Tackett officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Huntington.
