Francis R. Smith

Francis R. Smith, 86, of Huntington, died at 8:15 pm Friday, November 20, 2020 at his residence. Francis was born on July 8, 1934 in Bena, VA., the son of Huston Smith Sr and Mabel Coulter. He attended Huntington High School and then proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he served on the USS Hancock. After his honorable discharge he met the love of his life, Anna M. Corcoran. They joined in marriage October 14, 1960 in Huntington. He retired from Smith Decorating of Huntington after a career of being a professional painter. He was a member of the American Legion Post 7 of Huntington for 60 years and a faithful member of Collamer Church of God. He spent many hours listening to music and collecting coins. When he wasn't cheering on his favorite Basketball Team the IU Hoosiers, he loved spending quality time with his family. The greatest title Francis ever earned was Grandpa, and nothing made him more proud than his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving Wife of 60 years, Anna Smith, his Two Daughters, Jonnie Johnson of Ft. Wayne, IN; Kim C. Smith of Huntington, IN; Two Sons, Huston A. (Tona') Smith of South Whitley, IN; Dr. Bradley R (Joy) Smith of Haymarket, VA; Brother, Huston A. (Ann) Smith Jr. of Huntington, IN; Grandchildren, Huston A. Smith II of Ft. Wayne, IN; Tiffany M. (James Martz) Jones of Huntington, IN; Kassandre "Kasey" (Cory Sherer) Bucher Sherer of Ft.Wayne, IN; Carly E. (Jonathon) Stoffel of Columbia City, IN; Jaiden Babb of South Whitley, IN; Daisha Babb of South Whitley,IN; and nine Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Step-Mother Nina L. Smith, Step-Father Warren L. Coulter, Sister, Dorothy McCoy, Brother, James Haneline, Granddaughter, Ashley Close. Visitation will be from 3 pm - 7 pm, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Tom Coltrain officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post #2689 of Huntington. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery .
