Delene Anne Regan

Delene Anne Regan, age 81, of Huntington, died peacefully at 12:20 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at her home. Visitation will be from 3 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday immediately following visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 North Jefferson Street, Huntington, with Father Steve Colchin officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington. Preferred memorials are Masses for Delene at St. Mary Catholic Church in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary; 35 West Park Drive; Huntington, Indiana, 46750. Delene was born on December 27, 1934 in Huntington, the daughter of Maurice F. and Olive (Lesh) Smith. She was Valedictorian of her Huntington High School class of 1953. In 1957, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with highest scholastic honors from Indiana University. She was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta scholastic honorary societies. She was a student in the Indiana University School of Music organ department, and also studied and taught piano under her aunt, Berniece Riseborough. She married Dr. John E. Regan on June 14, 1958 at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Huntington. Delene was Secretary-Treasurer and majority owner of Bircraft, Inc. in Huntington. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, Kappa Kappa Gamma Social Sorority and Tri Kappa, Chi Chapter. She could regularly be found swimming and singing with her buddies at the YMCA. She particularly enjoyed her Bridge Club friends and eating at “Don’s Diner.” She loved fishing for bluegills in Birchwood, Wisconsin and Canadian fly-in fishing trips, where she earned the Walleye Master Angler recognition. Delene loved and was loved by all – friends, children, 20 grandchildren, sons and daughters-in-law. Her flowers brought her much joy, which she planted everywhere. Survivors include her husband of 58 years - Dr. John E. Regan of Huntington; eight children - Dr. John S. Regan and wife Liz, of Champaign, Illinois; Michael J. Regan of Fort Wayne; Sharon Delene Regan, JD, Pensacola, Florida; Dr. Jennifer Herlihy of Chillicothe, Ohio; Dr. Linda Burns and husband, Dr. Dan Burns of Elkhart; Dr. David Regan of Middlebury; Dr. Stephen Regan and wife Heather of Fort Wayne; and Dr. Stanton Regan and wife, Dr. Karen Regan of Lafayette; 20 7/9 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Robert H. Smith of Huntington and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Dr. Stephen M. Smith, sisters-in-law Jane Smith and Saralee Smith, and grandson A.J. Regan.
