Daniel L. Watkins

Daniel Lee Watkins, 74, of Andrews, passed away peacefully at 3:58 pm Monday, July 14, 2025. Daniel was born on April 24, 1951, in Fort Wayne, IN, the son of Clayton Watkins and Berniece (Meitzler) Watkins. Daniel graduated from Huntington North High School and married Marsha Krieg on January 23, 1978, in Wabash, IN. They shared 44 years of marriage before she preceded in death on February 27, 2022. Daniel retired from Duke Energy as a Lineman after 38 years of loyal service. He was a proud member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Son’s of the American Legion Post # 248 of Lagro, IN; VFW Auxiliary Post #3880 & Moose Lodge #2374 both of Lake Placid, FL. Daniel loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, always finding peace in nature. Starting in the early 2000s, Daniel and his wife Marsha split their time between two homes: one in sunny Florida and the other in Indiana. This let Daniel enjoy both the warmth of the south and the familiar fields of Indiana. Even after he retired, Daniel stayed busy. He worked hard on the Anson Farm with his best friend, taking care of anything that needed done. He believed in putting in the effort and was never afraid to get his hands dirty. Daniel had a playful side and loved making people laugh. He enjoyed watching Colt’s football, Westerns, playing euchre, and shooting pool. Above all, Daniel cared deeply for his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant everything to him. He was proud of them and loved spending time with them, teaching them and cheering them on. Daniel’s life was filled with adventure, hard work, laughter, and love. He will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, and his dedication to those he cared about most. His legacy lives on in the people who loved him and the stories they will continue to share. Survivors include his children Stephanie (Ted) Hendry of Fort Wayne, IN, Scott (Abby) Watkins of Ossian, IN, Michelle (Chester Holley) Hicks of Wabash, IN; granddaughters, Kori (Will Burford) Leonard, Kayla Watkins, Jessica (Mitchell) Rogers; grandsons, Talon Hendry, Brady Watkins, Noah Hicks, Collins Hicks, Bailey (Olivia) Huey; great grandchildren, Liam Hicks, Teagan Rogers, Henry Rogers, Emersyn Burford, Valerie Huey; brothers, Steve (Missy) Watkins of Huntington, IN, Roger (Diane) Watkins of Wabash. He is preceded in death by his Father, Clayton Watkins, Mother, Bernice Watkins, Son, Larry Von Huey, Wife, Marsha Watkins. A Celebration of Life will be 4pm-10pm Friday, August 8, 2025, at American Legion Post #85, 1410 S. Jefferson St, Huntington, IN. Food will be provided for friends and family.
