Christopher A. Urschel

Christopher A. Urschel, 65, of Huntington, passed away at 5:02 am Saturday, August 10, 2024. Chris was born on October 8, 1958, in Wabash, IN, the son of Marion “Junior” Urschel and Susan (Lancaster) Urschel. He graduated from Huntington North High School with the class of 1977 and continued his education at Ivy Tech where he earned his associates degree. Chris married his true love Rena Kay Keller on November 8, 1980, in Yoder, IN. They shared 43 years of marriage before she recently preceded him in death on July 13, 2024. He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society for over 25 years and member of the NRA. Chris was a faithful member of the New Hope United Church of Christ in Bippus, IN. He served on several boards for the community and currently was serving on the Bippus Regional Sewer District board. Previously Chris worked as the Maintenance Director for Norwood’s Nursing Home for 13 years prior to their closer. He then took a new position in transportation at Peabody Nursing Home in North Manchester for 3 years until his health forced him into early retirement. Chris was a devoted husband, supportive father and an amazing storyteller. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, reading books and collecting magazines. Chris was a history buff especially when it was about WWII. He was passionate about old westerns and was an avid gun enthusiast. Anyone that knew Chris understood there was no such thing as a quick visit with him, minutes turned into hours easily. He generally just adored people and would soak up their presence. He always looked forward to meeting new people and learning about their life’s journey. His helpful personality radiated kindness and joy; he was a bright light that will be missed. Chris and Rena’s love story truly was one for books and after a short month apart they reunited in heaven. Survivors include his loving children; Elizabeth (Justin) Keefer of Fort Wayne, IN, and Philip (Melissa) Urschel of Huntington, IN; sister, Amy (Mike) Frick of Zanesville, IN; brother, Eric (Kay) Urschel of Leo, IN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rena Kay Urschel, father, Marion “Junior” Urschel, mother, Susan Urschel. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Saturday, August 31, 2024, at New Hope Church of Christ of Bippus. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 31, 2024.
