Obituary for Gregory Alan Hedrick
Gregory Alan Hedrick, age 58, of Huntington, passed away peacefully at 10:35 p.m., Saturday (March 6, 2010) at his home with his wife.
Mr. Hedrick was born on March 7, 1951, the son of Jim and Pat (Cross) Hedrick and had been a life-time resident of Huntington. He graduated from Huntington North High School in 1969 and the Police Academy in 1975. He married Margie Purviance on November 21, 1971, and had two children. Following their divorce, he married Donna L. Stoffel on December 29, 2007.
Mr. Hedrick was Captain of the Huntington City Police Department and served as a policeman for over 34 years. He was the proud owner of Hedrick’s Eagle Excavating and co-owner of Caribbean Corner. Through his occupation and various businesses, Greg made a tremendous impact on the community of Huntington and its people. He coached his children and grandchildren’s baseball teams at the Huntington P.A.L. Club. Greg was an avid fan and supporter of his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife – Donna L. Hedrick of Huntington; parents – Jim and Pat Hedrick of Huntington; two daughters – Amy (Luke) Moreland of Huntington and Abby Hedrick of Huntington; one sister – Pam (David) Thrift of Huntington; his ex-wife and friend – Margie Hedrick of Huntington; two stepsons – Jeremiah (Danielle) Stoffel of Huntington and Jaryd Stoffel at home; one stepdaughter – Heather (Joe) McFarren of Roanoke; a brother-in-law – Mike Fisher of Huntington; three grandchildren – Logan Moreland, Landon Moreland and Audrey Moreland of Huntington; and four step grandchildren – Isaak Stoffel, Garrett Stoffel, Sydney McFarren and Sarah McFarren. His sister, Cindy Fisher, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 2 - 8 p.m. Tuesday (March 9, 2010) at the Huntington P.A.L. Club, 2099 Riverside Dr, Huntington. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday (March 10, 2010) at the Huntington P.A.L. Club with his minister Gerald Moreland officiating. Burial will be in Mount Etna Cemetery, Mt. Etna.
