Obituary for Cedric "Cid" L. Prather

Cedric “Cid” L. Prather, age 88, of Huntington, died at 2:02 p.m. Saturday (March 6, 2010) at the Tipton House in Huntington.

Cid was born October 4, 1921 in Howard County to Harvey and Tressie (Stewart) Prather. He graduated from Banquo High School in 1940. Cid joined the United States Air Force after graduation and served during W.W. II. He married Mildred “Mickey” Loudenback and she preceded him in death. On November 25, 1979 at the Central Christian Church in Huntington, he married Betty E. Pinkerton and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2009.

Cid continued his career as a Major with the United States Air Force retiring in 1981 after 39 years. He was also an over-the-road driver for Yellow Freight Transit in Huntington for over 26 years. He was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church, the American Legion Post #7, and the Eagle Lodge all in Huntington.

Survivors include one son – Michael (Susan) Prather of Bartow, Florida; four sisters – Deloris Schoenlein of Urbana; Lorena King of Sebring, Florida, Donna Ann (Dick) Nusbaum of Coleman, Michigan and Lois (Joe) Hacker of Huntington; two stepsons – Rick (Carole) Sell of Leo and Jerry (Diana) Sell of Ossian; eight step grandchildren and 22 step great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wives, grandson – Nicholas Prather, a sister – Wanda Prather and a stepdaughter – Beverly Sell.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Thursday (March 11, 2010) at Bailey-Love Mortuary. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Thursday (March 11, 2010) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Jimi Stanton officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory, Huntington County with the V.F.W. Post #2689 performing military rites.
