Obituaries

     Richard P. “Dick” Stonebraker, age 85, 253 West McCrum St., Huntington, IN, died Thursday (September 7, 2006) at 4:40 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.

     Mr. Stonebraker worked as a machinist at Orton Crane in Huntington for 26 years and at Fort Wayne’s International Harvester for 17 years when he retired in 1983.  Dick worked at the Clear Creek Golf Course during his retirement.  He was a 1939 graduate of Huntington High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-17 and B-29 gunner achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #7, both of Huntington, and the UAW Local #51 of Ft. Wayne.

     Dick was a life member of the Fort Wayne Bowling Association and served a term as its President.  He was among the first bowlers in the Huntington Church Bowling League where he was the league secretary for 17 years.  Dick was also an umpire for the World War II era Daisy Women’s Baseball League.

     Mr. Stonebraker was born June 25, 1921 in the Huntington County Hospital to Dale and Mary (Stetzel) Stonebraker.  He married Neva Jane Knight on April 19, 1952 in Huntington.

     Survivors include his wife of 54 years – Neva Stonebraker of Huntington, IN; one son – Lon M. (Cheryl) Stonebraker of Manassas, Virginia; three daughters – Cynthia A. (Jim) Grimes of Phoenix, Arizona, Alyce L. (Doug) Watkins of Andrews, IN and Mary Deneen (Ron) Fusselman of Huntington; six brothers – Keith (Annie) Stonebraker of Ossian, IN, Robert (Kate) Stonebraker of Huntington, Dean (Anne) Stonebraker of Huntington, Arthur (Carol) Stonebraker of Kokomo, IN, Neil (Sandy) Stonebraker of Huntington  and James (Carol) Stonebraker of Roanoke, IN; two sisters – Lois Offutt of Cleveland, Ohio and Norma (Rex) Jones of Huntington; fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.   

     Visitation will be 2-8 pm Monday (September 11, 2006) at Bailey-Love Mortuary.  Funeral services will be at 10 am Tuesday (September 12, 2006) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. David Ballinger and Dr. Sam Young officiating.  Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory, Huntington County.
