Remembrance Video for Philip Cole Ross, Sr.

     Philip Cole Ross, Sr., age 86, Huntington, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday (February 11, 2007) at home.

     Mr. Ross earned his Licensed Professional Engineer license in 1950.  He moved to Huntington in 1960 and obtained his Indiana Professional Engineers license in 1961.  He was employed as Professional Engineer with Sperry Gyroscope, Inc., Garden City Research Lab, Long Island, New York; General Electric, Utica, New York; Model Engineering and Manufacturing in Huntington; Bowmar Company in Fort Wayne; Wabash Magnetics in Huntington; Utrad Division of Litton in Huntington and Majestic of Huntington.

     He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntington and on the board for the Huntington County Council on Aging/Senior Center.  He was a past president of Huntington County Chapter Izaak Walton League, AARP #2175, Alert, Inc., Huntington County Humane Society, and United Way.  He was a member of Acres, Inc., CARE Inc., Huntington Kiwanis Club, National Audubon Society, Salamonie Birding Club, Stockbridge Audubon Society, Hoosier Environmental Council, Sierra Club, Greenpeace, National Wildlife Federation, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, National Resources Defense Council, Ducks Unlimited, Nature Conservancy, Fox Island, Defenders of Wildlife, and Little River Wetlands Project, Inc.   He had been actively involved with the Samaritan Center, and as a Deacon, Trustee, and Treasurer with the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington.

     He was a member of the National Ski Patrol while in New York State, and was highly involved as the Boy Scouts Scoutmaster for Troop 121 from 1968 to1973 with continuing involvement in Boy Scouts as an institutional representative and council committee member through the Anthony Wayne Area Boy Scout Council for over ten years.

     Mr. Ross was born on October 10, 1920 in West Hartford, Connecticut to Lee and Evelyn (Waterbury) Ross.  He was married to Jean Heissenbuttel of Garden City, New York on October 30, 1948, who survives.  He was a graduate of West Hartford (Conn.) High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Syracuse University.

     Other survivors include two daughters, Martha Hoyt (Robert) Goings of Huntington and Ginger Ross (Peter, M.D.) Breggin of King Ferry, New York, a son, Philip Cole (Moira Buckstein) Ross, Jr. of Waterford, Connecticut; one brother, Donald W. (Roselee Kelley, M.D.) Ross of Dunedin, Florida; three granddaughters, Shannon and Asha Goings of Huntington, and Alysha Carpenter of Florida; and two grandsons, Solomon and Nathaniel Ross of Waterford, Connecticut.  Preceding him in death was his sister, Alice Elizabeth Postle.

     Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday (February 14, 2007) at Trinity United Methodist Church at the corner of Guilford and Market Streets, Huntington.  A memorial service will follow immediately at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. David Ballinger officiating.
