Obituaries

    Norman A. Sommers, age 70, 2520 South 600 West, Huntington, died Saturday (December 10, 2005) at 11:25 am at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN.

     Mr. Sommers retired from E&B Paving Company on November 19, 1999, with 16 years as a heavy equipment operator & road foreman. He also was employed with Mohr’s Company for 16 years. Mr. Sommers was self-employed, hauling asphalt in Peru, IN.  Mr. Sommers was a member of the Huntington Moose, a part-time farmer and a very active bowler.

     Mr. Sommers was born in Howard County, IN on November 3, 1935 the son of Albert and Julia A. (Garber) Sommers. Mr. Sommers married Julia Ann Norris on July 31, 1954 in Kokomo, IN. Survivors are his wife – Julia Ann Sommers of Huntington; two sons – Jeffrey L. Sommers of Huntington and Steven D. (Deb) Sommers of Huntington; one daughter – Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Overby of Columbia City, IN; three brothers – Glen Sommers of Kokomo, IN, Max Sommers of Elkhart, IN and Dana Sommers of Sturgis, MI; one sister – Mrs. Charles (Donna) Hensler of Kokomo, IN; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

     Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Tuesday (December 13, 2005) at the Bailey-Love Mortuary.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday (December 14, 2005) at Bailey-Love Mortuary.  Rev. Lee Miller will be officiating and burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, IN.  

     In memory of Norman Sommers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN  46750.
