Remembrance Video for Januarius P. "Jan" Dimond

     Januarius P. “Jan” Dimond, age 79, 409 William Street, Huntington, died at 6:40 p.m. Friday (April 11, 2008) at Miller’s Merry Manor in Huntington.

     Mr. Dimond retired after 25 years as a sheet metal worker for General Electric in Ft. Wayne.  Prior to that, he worked at Majestic for 12 years.  He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington and the V.F.W. Post #2689.  Jan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean War with the rank of Sergeant and was a member of the Chosin Few.  He loved participating in Civil War reenactments, duck hunting, fishing, camping and motorcycles.

     Jan was born on July 18, 1928 in Huntington to Harry M. and Esther M. (Hartman) Dimond.  He graduated from Huntington High School in 1947 and married Jackie Shipley on August 30, 1953 in Huntington.

     Survivors include his wife of 54 years – Jackie J. Dimond of Huntington; three sons – Paul R. (Beth) Dimond of Markle, IN, Dave W. Dimond of Huntington, and Mark E. (Deb) Dimond of Huntington; two daughters – Kathy S. Morris of Huntington and Marcea A. Dimond of Huntington; two brothers – Robert (Doris) Dimond of Carmel, IN and Donald (LaVond) Dimond of Huntington; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.   Brothers John W. “Bill” Dimond and Jack Dimond Dimond, and sisters – Maralyn Kellam and Eleanor White, preceded him in death.

     Visitation will be 3 - 7 p.m. Monday (April 14, 2008) at Bailey-Love Mortuary.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday (April 15, 2008) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Dr. Richard Lofgren officiating.  Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Huntington.  The V.F.W. Post #2689 will be performing the military graveside rites.

     Preferred memorials are to the St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Miller’s Merry Manor Alzheimer’s Unit in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN  46750.
