Genevieve C. (Cosselman) Bixby, age 92, Huntington, died Tuesday (April 8, 2008) at the Heritage of Huntington.
Mrs. Bixby was a mother, wife, housekeeper and co/owner-operator of motels. She had lived in Avilla, Kendallville, and Greer, South Carolina, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Jacksonville, Florida, and Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She was a 1933 graduate of Ann Arbor High School, Ann Arbor, MI. She lived with Alzheimer’s for nearly two decades. When life gave her lemons, Genevieve always made lemonade.
Genevieve was born on May 7, 1915 in Genesse City, Michigan, the daughter of John and Alta (McComber) Cosselman. She married Garth Lester Bixby on June 17, 1933 at a friend’s home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1996.
Survivors include one son – Thomas G. (Carol M.) Bixby of Huntington; one daughter – Sandra J. (Bobby) Mitchell of Huntington; two sisters – Mabel Stone of Lancaster, MI, and Ruth Wilson of Flint, MI; fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. Her parents, husband, one sister – Effie Helmer, preceded her in death.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer‘s Association in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive Huntington, IN.
